I know that I put this clip as “Clip O’ The Day” on my homepage, but it certainly merits entry into the blog itself.
You know: I’ve had people compliment me on my writing…saying that I express my opinions on political matters well. Then I see a clip like this and I realize that I could do so much better. In seven minutes Colin Powell does a better job of explaining the reasons to vote for Barack Obama than I have in one hundred posts.
But here…I’ll let him say it:
Remember: this man is a Republican, a distinguished veteran, and was a member of George W. Bush’s administration for years. Yet here, he puts aside any purely partisan thinking and asks of himself only:

3) What is in the best interests of this country?
In his thinking, his compassion, and his dedication to his fellow citizens (ALL OF THEM) he shows the very best of what we wish our soldiers, and indeed all citizens, to be…PATRIOTS. The real patriots…the men and women who know that it is not about serving and defending the President or even the government as a whole…
…it is about serving each other. And the American ideals.
UPDATE: 4:18 PM – Powell went on in a later interview to make even stronger condemnations of the McCain campaign, and even provided a succinct and reasonable summary of the “taxation ideology” confusion that grips so much of our national discourse:
