It’s a simple equation really:
First you take “IDEA A“…and supporters of that idea (we’ll call them “PEOPLE S“) Then you change “IDEA A” to include extreme “IDEAS E“…now it’s “IDEAS A + E.” This attracts supporters of extreme “IDEAS E“…we’ll call them “PEOPLE X,” so now your supporter group consists of “PEOPLE S + X.”
If “PEOPLE S” don’t agree with “IDEAS E“…and don’t like being associated with “PEOPLE X“…how long is it going to take before all you are left with is “PEOPLE X?”
Don’t like equations? Lets take some real world examples:
IDEAS A: Core Republican ideas
-Small government, fiscal responsibility, lower taxes, less legislation of behavior, less intrusion into privacy, literal interpretation of the Constitution, resistance to Constitutional amendment, greater emphasis on foreign diplomacy, defense of civil liberties.
PEOPLE S: Traditional Republicans.
IDEAS E: Let’s add in a little crazy…just a couple recent examples…
-Robocalls, round one: “Hello. I’m calling for John McCain and the RNC…[you] need to know that Barack Obama has worked closely with domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers, whose organization bombed the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon, a judge’s home, and killed Americans.”
-Robocalls, round two: “Hello, this is Governor Tom Ridge, America’s first Secretary of Homeland Security….[Biden] reminded us of Sen. Obama’s inexperience when he said that America would face an international crisis that Sen. Obama would be unprepared to handle alone. If the Democrats win complete control of government they will want to give traditional civil rights to terrorists and talk unconditionally to dictators and state sponsors of terror. Barack Obama and his Democrat allies lack the experience and judgment to lead America.”
-GOP Representative Bachman: Called for the media to investigate members of Congress to “find out if they are pro-America or anti-America…If we look at the collection of friends that Barack Obama has had in his life it calls into question what Barack Obama’s true beliefs and values and thoughts are. His attitudes, values, and beliefs with Jeremiah Wright on his view of the United States…is negative; Bill Ayers, his negative view of the United States. We have seen one friend after another call into question his judgment — but also, what it is that Barack Obama really believes?”
-Governor Palin: Asked if bombing abortion clinics is terrorism, “There is no question that Bill Ayers via his own admittance was um one who sought to destroy our US Capitol and our Pentagon — that is a domestic terrorist. There’s no question there. Now others who would want to engage in harming innocent Americans or um facilities, that uh, it would be unacceptable — I don’t know if you could use the word terrorist, but its unacceptable and it would not be condoned of course on our watch. I don’t know if what you are asking is if I regret referring to Bill Ayers as an unrepentant domestic terrorist. I don’t regret characterizing him as that…I would put in that category of Bill Ayers anyone else who would seek to destroy our United States Capitol and our Pentagon and would seek to destroy innocent Americans.”
-Governor Palin: In North Carolina said, “We believe that the best of America is not all in Washington, D.C. We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation.”
-The Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated: Said that if Obama is elected his image will appear on food stamps instead of dollar bills, and they included a picture of an “Obama Buck” — a food stamp featuring Obama’s face on a donkey’s body, surrounded by fried chicken and watermelon.
-GOP Representative Hayes: At a rally, “liberals hate real Americans that work and accomplish and achieve and believe in God.”
-Marcia Stirman, the head of the Republican Women of Otero County: Called Obama a “Muslim socialist” and stating that “Muslims are our enemies…I don’t trust them at all. They’ve sworn across the world that they are our enemies. Why we’re trying to elect one is beside me.”
PEOPLE X: What kind of people do “IDEAS E” draw into the flock?
-In Kansas, an Obama supporter was shopping with his infant son when a McCain-Palin supporter rammed into his shopping cart…the attacker was charged with assault.
-In North Carolina, reporter Joe Killian was kicked from behind and knocked to the ground at a Palin rally…because some McCain supporters were upset that the reporter was interviewing a group of Obama supporters.
-Two separate homeowners in Villa Park, Illinois found death threats in their mailboxes: “Get the Obama signs off your property – now. Failure to obey this order will result in the immediate death of all family members.“
-In Wisconsin, McCain-Palin supporter Ronald Goetsch attacked 58 year old Nancy Takehara, grabbing her by the hair and striking her in the face, while she was canvassing for Obama. The victim recounted: “[Goetsch] was telling us we’re not his people, we’re probably with ACORN, and he started screaming and raving. He grabbed me by the back of the neck. I thought he was going to rip my hair out of my head. He was pounding on my head and screaming. The man terrified me.“
-In North Carolina someone slashed the tires of thirty cars during an Obama rally.
-In West Virginia, a crowd of McCain-Palin supporters gathered to jeer and threaten a group of predominantly black voters as they arrived at the polls. When journalist Christina Bellantoni asked the sheriff if the protesters were allowed at the early voting location, the sheriff stated, “They’re fine.“
-In Fairfield, Ohio, Mike Lunsford hung an effigy of Obama in a tree in his front yard. He attached a campaign sign to the effigy, wrote “Hussain” (his spelling), put a noose around its neck, and strung it up in a tree.
-At Western Carolina University campus in North Carolina, a baby bear carcass was found dumped…with a series of Obama posters strung around its neck.
-In Virginia, in the yard of an elderly African American minister…someone replaced his Obama sign with a confederate flag. After the flag had been replaced with a new Obama sign, a car drove by several times, honking and yelling at the minister’s family. The next day, the car returned, and the honking and yelling continued…and later they yelled, “No Change!” while a reporter interviewed the family in the yard.
-In Texas, Ashley Todd, a McCain volunteer, claimed she was mugged at an ATM machine because she supported McCain. She claimed that a 6 foot, four inch tall black man had put a knife to her throat and demanded money. Then he punched her in the back of the head, knocked her to the ground, and and said “you are going to be a Barack supporter.” She said he continued to punch and kick her while threatening “to teach her a lesson for being a McCain supporter.” She said he then sat on her chest, pinned her hands down with his knees and scratched a backward letter “B” into her face using what she believed to be a dull knife. In later statements she added that the man had sexually assaulted her…at a news conference this afternoon, Police say she confessed to making up the entire story. Police now believe that Ashley Todd’s injuries were self-inflicted.
-It’s worth noting that at the time of this writing, while I found DOZENS more verified reports of violence by McCain supporters…I could not find any reports of violence perpetrated by Obama supporters. All the articles about “mounting violence against McCain supporters” revolved around the false accusations of Ashley Todd (mentioned above).

So what do “PEOPLE S” do? Here’s what:
-Colin Powell defects
-Christopher Buckley defects
-The entire Goldwater family defects
-McCain’s own advisor, Charles Fried…defects
-Major newspapers (who usually support Republicans) defect
So what should you do, my “Friends-Who-Are-Intelligent-Republicans-So-I-Just-Don’t-Understand-Your-Unwavering-Support-For-McCain-And-Palin’s-Nonsense?” I don’t know…maybe what these people did:
