Which would you rather call your compatriots?

Over the last several months, clips have repeatedly been aired on YouTube showing people at McCain and Palin rallies…shouting racist statements…calling for Obama to be killed…repeating the worst kind of slanderous and misinformed falsehoods

…McCain and many of his supporters would tell you that this is just a few, isolated fanatics…but in our hearts, we know it’s not. It doesn’t look like just a few lone extremists in these videos…and our knowledge of the people who live around us tells it that there are a lot of people in the country who harbor the same hateful notionswho believe the same lies. I alone have MANY people that I come into contact with daily within the city of Nashville who believe no differently than the McCain supporters in this clip:

Did you notice? While the McCain supporters hurl insults and attempt to menace the Obama supporters….the Obama supporters just stand there and cheer Obama’s name. One could try to dismiss this by saying, “they only interviewed the most deranged people,” or “the Obama supporters probably just behaved well while the camera was on.” But down deep you know that that isn’t the case. Their signs aren’t printed with hateful slogans…it reminds me of the debate held here in Nashville. Then too, the Obama supporters were a positive and friendly bunch…and the man on the loudspeakers asked anyone who had a negative sign or banner to remove it, saying: “That’s not what we do…we don’t start that.

If these were isolated incidents I might dismiss them…but now, I cannot. My general observation is that Obama’s strongest supporters are, by and large and with a few exceptions, positive and peaceful. And McCain’s most ardent supports…are neither of those things. It says a lot about the very different “cultures” these men wish to create in America.
