I thought we’d have a little fun with the topic of Health Care Reform today, and I’d share some animated clips that made me laugh.
I first discovered Mark Fiore’s animations through Slate.com‘s daily podcasts. For those who are unfamiliar, Slate is an online news and commentary site…what sets it apart from other such sites is the style and humor with which it addresses current issues. Its podcasts never fail to inform and entertain, and are an eclectic mix of short clips, movie reviews, advice columns, man-on-the-street interviews, and animated shorts.
Mark Fiore has a page here, and a YouTube channel here…his clips cover the entire gamut of topics, from the recession/stimulus, to social issues, to matters of policy and law. I wanted to present just a few he has dedicated to the subject of Health Care Reform in this country:
This first one does a wonderful job of presenting the current, miserable state of Health Care and is called “Doctor Decline: Hold Tight“…
The next clip shows the ridiculous and highly exaggerated nature of the fear-based anti-reform claims that are circulating. It is titled “Reform Madness“…
The last clip is called “Rage-Ex,” and covers the subject of the reform opposition camp’s use of “generated outrage” to get people to ignore reason, and to fight against their own best interests…
Much in the way Jon Stewart of The Daily Show utilizes humor to allow us to “step outside” of an event or issue so that exaggerations and nonsensical arguments become more apparent to the viewers…these clips, through the use of humor, can help us to see how others are attempting to manipulate us toward their own ends.
More tomorrow…on the subject of President Obama’s upcoming speech to the nation’s schoolchildren, and the outrage it has provoked.
