A roundup of kitchen-sink-attacks…and Clip Time!
Well…we knew this day would come: kitchen sink time.
Here’s a quick round up of the latest attacks produced by the McCain camp (and friends):
-McCain took out of context comments Obama made in Iowa on Friday when Obama stated that the Iowa Caucuses had vindicated his faith in America, and used them to question Obama’s patriotism. IN CONTEXT, Obama had just finished saying that that he always knew how “generous” and “decent” his fellow Americans were.
-A McCain flyer distributed in Virginia shows a typical suburban neighborhood…and then goes on to say that “Protecting you family comes first” and that Obama has a record of being “soft on crime” and opposing harsher penalties for major offenses. This is an obvious appeal to fear, and dramatically misrepresents Obama’s voting record. It accuses Obama of voting against making gang members eligible for the death penalty, curbing the death penalty system, and pushing to expunge criminal records of ex-convicts. Factually, Obama has supported measures to get more cops on the streets, and has said he would “immediately review sentences to see where we can be smarter on crime and reduce the ineffective warehousing of nonviolent drug offenders.” These sentence reviews are supported by numerous studies of criminal behavior.
-In Pennsylvania, a flyer goes so far as to imply that Obama would lead to a second holocaust. Despite Obama’s consistently strong stance in support and defense of Israel, the flyer alleges that Obama could lead to a “tragic outcome” for Jews and warns “Concerned about Barack Obama? You should be. History has shown that a naive and weak foreign policy has resulted in tragic outcomes for the Jewish people.” The mailer then shows a labeled picture of Obama speaking in Germany.
-Despite Obama’s birth certificate now being fully vetted and verified, Tim McClellan (regional manager in Florida for the McCain campaign) is publicly questioning Obama’s citizenship: “I have strong concerns that Obama is not a citizen. I suspect the U.S. Supreme Court will prove that Obama’s not a citizen. Did he go to Indonesia and become an Indonesian citizen, and if so, did he take steps to regain his (U.S.) citizenship? There’s no seal on his birth certificate and the font is wrong.”
-The National Republican Trust PAC has announced that they are performing a large ad buy to do a series of “Reverend Wright” attacks.
-All this is in addition to a constant litany of claims of socialism, ties to Khalidi (still funny…seeing as McCain gave Khalidi $400,000), being soft on lobbyists (even funnier…seeing as McCain has SO many lobbyists working for his campaign)…
If McCain can’t see that this style of attack only strengthens support among the people that he already had strong support from…at the same time turning off moderates and independents…then he deserves to lose this election.
Now: Clip time! Here are some of my favorites from the weekend…
…here’s the entire campaign in a minute:
…and here’s a McCain supporter who won’t give Halloween candy to kids unless they (and their parents) say they’ll vote for McCain:
…the SNL clip of McCain from last night…truly priceless – I’ll give him huge props for being a good sport…much better sport than Palin was:
…here’s former SNL member Victoria Jackson, who has attacked Obama as a “racist” and a “communist” in the past:
…and finally under the category of least helpful endorsement, the inimitable Dick Cheney:
See you Monday for more…three days to go!
